Summary/Abstract: Peer review is one of the most critical stages of academic publishing and involves not only deciding whether a manuscript should be published but also improving the quality of the work and contributing to the advancement of the field. Although there is ongoing debate about whether peer review should be rewarded with various types of incentives and points, academic tradition regards it as a voluntary service grounded in commitment to science and professional responsibility. In international publishing, the recognition for peer review is generally measured not by financial gain but by visibility, reputation, and academic credibility. For instance, recognition systems such as the Web of Science and Elsevier’s Reviewer Recognition Service/Platform enhance the documentation and visibility of peer review contributions. Similarly, DergiPark in Turkey plays an important role in this regard. Therefore, peer review should be considered a fundamental activity that not only ensures the continuity of science as a voluntary responsibility but also enriches reviewers’ intellectual capital and supports the development of academic culture.
