Summary/Abstract: This study examines how the principles of faith in Islam are discussed in the Diyanet Monthly Magazine. It is based on 348 issues published between January 1991 and December 2019. “To enlighten society about the principles of faith and the religion of Islam” is one of the duties assigned to the Presidency of Religious Affairs by Law No. 633. One of the tools the Presidency uses to fulfil this duty is its broadcasting services. The publishing services of the Presidency consist of different tools, including printed materials, periodicals, calendars, radio and television broadcasts, digital content, and publications on social media platforms. In addition to Diyanet Monthly Magazine (Diyanet Aylık Dergisi), the Presidency’s periodical publishing services continue in various areas with titles such as Diyanet Family Magazine (Diyanet Aile Dergisi), Diyanet Festival Newspaper (Diyanet Bayram Gazetesi), Diyanet Jim Magazine (Diyanet Cim Dergisi), Diyanet Children’s Magazine (Diyanet Çocuk Dergisi), Passing Magazine (Geçerken Dergisi), Diyanet Scholarly Magazine (Diyanet İlmi Dergisi), Diyanet Arabic Scholarly Magazine (Diyanet Arapça İlmi Dergisi), Diyanet Journal (Diyanet Dergisi), Arabic Pen Magazine (Arapça Kalem Dergisi), and Arabic Children’s Magazine Nujaim (Arapça Çocuk Dergisi Nuceym). It is important to examine the information provided by the Presidency in the Monthly Magazine about the “principles of faith of the Islamic religion” as outlined in the relevant law. This study aims to examine the information provided by the Presidency in the Monthly Magazine regarding the principles of faith. The hypothesis of the research is that the Presidency provides extensive information on issues related to the “faith/principles of belief in Islam” with respect to the duties assigned to it by the relevant law. This qualitative study examines, based on the purpose and hypothesis in question, how issues related to belief in God and destiny are discussed with respect to Uluhiyyah (divinity), in line with the main division in the science of kalâm/theology. It then explores the framework regarding belief in prophets and scriptures within the scope of prophethood. Finally, the study aims to reveal information about belief in angels and the afterlife based on Samʿiyyat/ transmitted knowledge. It was found that 300 out of 6,779 articles reviewed for the study (approximately 4.4%) are related to faith issues. This number is directly proportional to the figures in the magazine’s agenda topics: belief issues (3%), worship (7%), morality (4%), religious sociocultural life (76%), and unity and solidarity (10%). Of the 300 articles on faith, 238 (79.3%) are about the principles of faith, 25 (8.3%) are about atheistic movements, 37 (12.3%) are about beliefs such as the Mahdi, Messiah, bid’ah, and superstitions. The proportion of articles related to the principles of faith corresponds to 3.5% of the reviewed articles. It seems that this finding does not support the hypothesis of the study. It was concluded that Diyanet Monthly Magazine should devote more space to topics related to the principles of faith.
