Summary/Abstract: In January 1936, part of the Silesian activists in District I of the Union of Poles in Germany renounced the allegiance to the central authorities of the Union and established the Union of Poles in Silesia. In the historical literature, attention was paid to various elements conditioning the causes and the course of that conflict. It was pointed to the fact that the Silesian secession was a manifestation of the revolt of young activists aimed at enlivening the activity of the organization in the district and investing the movement with a formula capable of more effective protection of interests of the Polish population against the pressure of a totalitarian state. The Silesian secession was the consequence of the tendencies existing in Opole Silesia from at least 1923 as well as a manifestation and effect of disputes concerning the organizational form of the Polish movement in Germany. It was not coincidental that the rebellion of the Silesian “youth” occurred at the time when the Polish intelligence started preparations to deactivate the planned subversive activity on the territory of Opole Silesia. Similar phenomena occurred in other districts, although the motives and character of the activity there differed slightly
