Summary/Abstract: The teaching of foreign languages has undergone a significant transformation in recent decades, shifting from a form-focused approach to one centred on meaning and communication. In this context, digital technology offers multiple possibilities for creating real communication situations, in which language use becomes a means of authentic interaction rather than a scope in itself. Online platforms — from messaging apps to multimodal content-creation tools — can support the development of authentic communicative tasks, fostering students’ linguistic and intercultural competencies. In teaching Romanian as a foreign language (RFL), the integration of these tools is even more relevant, as the digital environment makes it possible to simulate real contexts of language use: from informal WhatsApp conversations to video presentations or podcasts that reproduce discourse genres specific to social and academic life. This article aims to analyse how online platforms can be used in designing communicative tasks, from the perspective of theoretical principles and concrete examples applicable to RFL teaching practice.
