Summary/Abstract: While the European Union is developingplans to finally and completely cut itself off fromRussian oil and gas supplies, the solutions it has foundare less than ideal. This illustrates the challenge thatEurope faces in overcoming its dependency on Russia,while at the same time not giving in to massive fossil fueldevelopment. To make matters worse, Europe cannotescape the geopolitical dimension of fossil fuels.
