Summary/Abstract: This practice-based account describes a task sequence that aims to enhance student teachers’ awareness of the role of English as a global lingua franca and its implica¬tions for ELT today. Student teachers are encouraged to encounter English in their environment with a sense of wonder and apply this mindset to task design. The tasks included in this paper indicate that student teachers are taking the first steps towards connecting English as a global lingua franca with a more traditional ELT syllabus, as well as encouraging wonder in their learners as an impetus for autonomous learning beyond the classroom.
