Summary/Abstract: The Feast of Transfiguration is a liturgical celebration that annually renews the biblical moment of the Transfiguration into the Christian consciousness. It emerged as a feast in the 6th century in response to certain heresies of that time, with the Holy Fathers intending to emphasize the Divinity of the Savior Jesus Christ as One who is proclaimed by the Father to be of the same essence with Him. The glory of the Most Holy Trinity is a dogmatic concept that permeates the hymnographic catechesis of the feast, thus showing that the dogma of the Most Holy Trinity forms the foundation of this celebration’s hymnography. As with the feast of the Baptism, celebrated on January 6th, the Transfiguration represents a theophany of the Triune God. The epiphanic character of the feast itself is conveyed through this theme, which has been theologized both in liturgical lyrics and in the encomiastic words of the Holy Fathers. The Taboric Light is a subject that has drawn the attention of all researchers throughout time. It became the focus of hesychastic dispute in the 14th century, with its nature being contested by Western scholasticism and vigorously defended by Saint Gregory Palamas and his disciples. The nature of this Light is divine, flowing from the Person of the Savior Jesus Christ, and those who were deemed worthy to see it, through divine condescension, beheld it with the eyes of their mind. The contemplation of the Taboric Light is possible for all who abandon materialistic thinking and take care, through asceticism and ceaseless prayer, to cleanse their minds of the passions and thoughts that burden it.
