Summary/Abstract: Based on unpublished archival sources describing a case of the plague in the village of Dobropoljci in the Dalmatian hinterland, the public health measures that were implemented by Venetian authorities during the 18th century are presented and analysed. This paper highlights the balance Venetian authorities sought to achieve between protecting public health and maintaining social and economic stability. Additionally, the research considers the role of the clergy, who, despite the secularization of public health initiatives, remained integral in disseminating information, fostering community cooperation, and providing spiritual support essential for moral cohesion within the community.
