Summary/Abstract: This paper analyses relations between the Greek-Aromanian and Serbian communities in the Metropolitanate of Karlovci during the second half of the 18th century and focuses on the translations of the ancient Greek literature. The case study is based on the research work of one book of the translations made by Dimtrios Nikolau Darvaris. He translated works of philosophical and religious content from German into Greek and Slavonic-Serbian, as well as from ancient Greek into SlavonicSerbian and vice versa. His method of cultural translation of Icon of Cebes of Thebes (Kevita Tiveiskago Ikona, 1799) from ancient Greek into Slavonic-Serbian is the subject of our analysis. This work is attributed to the Greek philosopher Cebes of Thebes, who according to Plato’s Phaedo i.e. On the Soul, was a friend of Socrates. Plato’s and Cebes’ works were included in the curricula of the Universities in Halle and Leipzig where Darvaris studied. After his return to the Habsburg Monarchy, he translated this work for the educational purposes for Serbian, Greek and Aromanian pupils.
