Summary/Abstract: Charles VI kept a diary from 1707 until his death in October 1740. The first book begins shortly after the capture and defense of Barcelona against the troops of his adversary in Spain, Philip of Anjou. The archduke kept his notes in German generally enumerating the individual daily stations in telegram style. Nevertheless, the emperor sometimes went into more detail in his notes, and was certainly emotional. The entries are of particular value in that Charles VI kept the diaries directly and for himself personally, as suggested by numerous abridgements and increasing encoding in the final volumes. On the basis of the diaries and the isolated, but in aggregate quite numerous remarks contained therein, the feelings of the emperor towards the persons close to him, i.e. also the empress, the mother or the children, are examined in more detail in the article. In addition, corresponding expressions in connection with courtly amusements or certainly also politics will be part of the investigation, especially with regard to the developments in the East. In short, the concentrated view should show a little more of the personality of Charles as it appears in the diary entries.
