Summary/Abstract: As Ukrainians took their first steps in exploringtheir own history, they began uncovering a wealthof previously forbidden topics and figures. Followingthe country’s independence, the exchange of academicresearch between Ukrainian and western historiansbecame possible. This significantly contributed to shapingUkraine’s historical policy, which was also in many casesin direct opposition to the Kremlin’s interpretationof history. Unsurprisingly, history and memory arekey components of Russia’s war against Ukraine.
