Summary/Abstract: The study focused on the undecorated and incised decorative plates, which are well known to researchers. Of the 28 know sabretache plates from the Carpathian Basin, 12 can be classified in this group. Although most of these finds have been known for a long time, their detailed study may still reveal new interesting observations, and it is precisely such a new insight that has made the review of this type of object relevant. Microscopic analysis revealed a symmetrically arranged double fish pattern on the plate of the grave 3 of Kenézlő-Fazekaszug, which has not been identified until now. The fish were depicted by the artist with eyes, fins and scales. The closest parallel to the fish motif is the pair of stirrups found in grave 8 of the Balatonújlak-Erdő-dűlő, which, based on their formal similarities, may suggest a pattern that crosses the ages. As the meaning of archaeological symbols is not always clear, the study outlines several interpretative possibilities—including both contemporary parallels and cultural-historical aspects.
