Summary/Abstract: Hungarian archaeology was affected by Eastern influences, manifested through complex processes. Archaeozoology in Hungary emerged in the Romantic era, permeated by Orientalism, the myth of the “fabulous East”. The survival of this view in the interpretation of a recent find is shown through the example of interpreting cranial features of camels and horses, beasts of great symbolic value.
