Summary/Abstract: The article presents the development of the economy in the Bulgarian lands in the period from the 13th to the 14th centuries with regard to craft production. The emphasis is on metalworking, as the main points of the article are the organization of production, the realization in the exchange and the participation in the revenues of the treasury. Written information about craft production, and in particular about metalworking, is few compared to those about the agrarian sector. An addition to the available information are the archaeological excavations, through which a more comprehensive picture of the development of the specific crafts on the Bulgarian lands in the 13th–14th centuries is compiled. Despite the growth of the urban economy during the considered period, the main economic sector remains the agrarian one, which takes part in exports. Craft production, including metalworking as a sub-sector, is mainly concentrated on domestic demand in rural and urban environments. This means that it remains mostly within the domestic market. Exports of goods from the secondary economic sector are on a smaller scale. Consequently, the revenues for the treasury, as a result of craft activity and realization in trade, are smaller. The production is mainly for the domestic market and partly for the international market.
