Summary/Abstract: During the interwar period, the Higher Regional Court in Brno delegated criminal proceedingsrelated to bribery in the awarding and implementation of state public contracts to the Moravianjudiciary. The regional criminal courts in Brno and Jihlava were chosen for their geographicallocation in the middle of the state, but also less likely to have subjective relations between judgesand participants and political parties. The corruption trials were supposed to fulfill an urgentpolitical order for exemplary punishment of corruption and, in one case, also eliminate thegovernment circles of an inconvenient leader of a radical opposition party. The surviving casefiles demonstrate how difficult it was, with considerable time, to establish unequivocally thatthe facts of the offence were fulfilled, all the more so because many of the parties purposefullychanged their statements during the criminal proceedings. Despite vociferous anti-corruptionrhetoric directed at voters, the ruling coalition‘s political parties lacked a common political willto uncover all connections regardless of the persons.
