Summary/Abstract: The school subject of Health Physical Education (HPE), focused on supporting students with special educational needs (SEN), has a tradition spanning more than 70 years. It serves both a direct health function (bio-, psycho- and social benefits) as well as an educational purpose. Nevertheless, dueto various factors, there has been a dramatic decline in HPE teaching in schools. The aim of this study was to use a questionnaire to examine the level of professional self-confidence (self-efficacy) among final-year physical education students at the Faculty of Physical Education and Sport of Charles University in relation to teaching Health Physical Education. Of 68 participants (30 men, 38 women, aged 23-35), only 26.5 % feel competent to teach HPE. This factor may play a significant negative rolein supporting students with SEN in schools.
