Summary/Abstract: European legislation in the field of tourism is a system of legal norms binding both the European Union as a whole and the Member States. These norms enter into force in individual Member States in different ways depending on whether they are a directive, regulation, decision or other. Some have direct effect and do not require additional actions or actions for their entry into force in the Member States, others should be incorporated into national legislation in order to enter into force in the individual Member State. The system of legal norms in the field of tourism aims to regulate, above all, the sustainable development of modern tourism. The leading role in the regulation of the international tourism industry and its activities in the EU Member States is played by directives and their decisions directly concerning tourism activities. The article examines the main instruments for regulating the international tourism business - legal regulators (public law and private law), subjects of legal regulation, sources of legal regulation and mechanisms of influence of legal regulation. Specific examples are given from the legislation of individual European countries with well-developed tourism. In conclusion, some guidelines are formulated for the further development of legal regulations of tourism in the EU and at the national level.
