Summary/Abstract: This text examines the features of Milen Ruskov’s debut book Pocket Encyclopedia of Mysteries, and more specifically the irony and homage in it. Attention is paid to the literary scandal that accompanied the appearance of the book. The article defends the view that the work is a novel – a view disputed by some researchers, through an argument based on characteristics of the postmodern novel by foreign-language and Bulgarian authors. The focus of the analysis is on irony as a type of criticism forming part of the arsenal of historiographic metafiction and on the homage to history, both serving as expressions of one of the main elements of Milen Ruskov’s postmodern writing.
