Summary/Abstract: This study examines Bogomil Raynov’s novella “Roads to Nowhere” through the lens of narratological theory and the destabilization of that model under the influence of illness, understood as a form of pathomorphosis. At its core, the study aims to offer a new reading of the narrative by analyzing the interaction between physical and psychological suffering, employing an interdisciplinary approach that incorporates Michel Foucault’s concepts of hospital space and Gérard Genette’s structuralist narratology. The central thesis posits illness as a disruptive mechanism that undermines the symmetry of classical narrative order, leading to unstable identification and shifting focalization. The contribution of the study lies in the development of a new conceptual model of interpretation, grounded in binary oppositions (inside/outside, doctor/patient, healthy/ill) that structure the fictional space and function as drivers of narrative dynamics.
