Summary/Abstract: The life of the order clergy of the Grand priory of Bohemia the Order of Malta, whose main taskwas to secure the administration of the order‘s parish churches, is evidenced to some extent bythe statutes they were supposed to observe. There were local specialised regulations in addition tothe full-line statutes. The oldest surviving statutes were addressed to the brethren living in theconvent. Not long after, rules arose for the brethren working at the benefices. Finally, the statutesslated for novices and clerics were separated. During the reporting period, made up of the years1740 to 1871, the categories intersected in different ways. Articles of statutes can be divided intofive headings according to their content into the administration and functioning of the convent, the conduct of the order‘s youth, the behavior of brethren, the pastoral service with spiritual careand the administration of property, or as a last service to God. For example, newspaper articlesdepicting the scandals of some members of the convent provide a general picture of compliancewith the statutes in practice.
