Summary/Abstract: The Zhou Dynasty (1046 BC–256 BC) was a comprehensive period in the history of Chinese dance. Its politics, culture and etiquette traditions all became the cornerstone of the traditional culture of the Chinese nation. The music and dance of the Western Zhou Dynasty and the Eastern Zhou Dynasty have different vitality. Through the research, we can find that the formation of music and dance has its own unique development rules and expression forms. From the establishment of the elegant music and dance system in the Western Zhou Dynasty to the rise of the common music of the Eastern Zhou Dynasty, it gradually presented the transformation from the utilitarian function of music and dance to the cultural aesthetic function. Ultimately, the elegant music and folk music of the Zhou Dynasty formed the splendid dance civilization of the Zhou Dynasty together, forming the basic state of music and dance in ancient China.
