Summary/Abstract: In our paper, we shall analyse the most obvious identity landmarks, related to the issue of the otherness; particular feature of Istrate’s literary creation permanently heads towards the past, which either refers to history, relating to the roots or lies under the sign of confession. The dialogue on the worlds is a constant of his confessional discourse, while authenticity and sincerity can only be measured by the epic substance of the confessional text. Each and every page of Istate’s writings renders glimpses of life and the action is often placed near the magical realism where characters live the nostalgia of the unknown. From a narrative perspective, Istrate’s texts are strongly inculcated by the autobiographic component and have their unique magnetism, mainly determined by the simplicity of expression. Thus, the research corpus consists in his famous productions: Chira Chiralina, his first and the most outstanding success (1924), then Haiducii (1925, 1926) and Ciulinii Bărăganului (1928).
