Summary/Abstract: he aim of the article is to look at what a diary actually is, what it was in the 20th century in the Czech context, where and how it originated (together with Philipp Lejeune) - and to look at where this literal folk genre without much formal specification is heading in the 21st century with regard to human spirituality and the sensory fragmentation of the human soul. The diary of Jan Zábrana, a prominent Czech poet and translator, son of political prisoners of the 1950s and a banned author of the 1970s, will be discussed in more detail. We will try to find traces of the adjectives divine/godly or direct address to God, or dialogue with Him, in his writings.
