Summary/Abstract: This study reinterprets Max Weber's (2012) concept of "the disenchantment of the world" in light of current technological advancements and examines the impact of new technologies on social transformation. Weber (2012) argued that during the modernization process, science and rational thought replaced religious and mystical ideas, resulting in the disenchantment of the world. However, today's new technological developments, such as artificial intelligence, digitalization, big data, and biotechnology, not only reinforce this disenchantment process but also create a new process of enchantment. Accordingly, the aim of this study is to examine the disenchantment and reenchantment processes created by new technologies in modern society from a sociological perspective. In particular, by focusing on Weber's (2012) concepts of rationalization and types of authority, we will analyze how technology transforms individuals' daily lives, their physical and mental integrity, and their social reality, and how technological elites establish their social authority. This discussion, based on literature and conducted from a sociological perspective within the framework of Weber's concepts, emphasizes that technological advances cannot be understood solely through analyses based on empirical data. It concludes that for technological developments to more comprehensively explain social dynamics and individual lives and to address certain questions, the insights provided by social sciences must be integrated into these processes. It provides a unique opportunity to connect recent technological developments to the concepts of both disenchantment and reenchantment.
