Summary/Abstract: This study explores the way in which St. Maximus the Confessor uses and interprets the Holy Scripture. Although he is best known for his fight against the Monothelite heresy, St. Maximus the Confessor has left us some works in which we can find a wonderful intertwining between the pragmatism of the ascetic exegesis specific to the Fathers of the Desert and the allegorism specific to the biblical interpretation of the Alexandrian school. Starting from the analysis of the way in which he interprets the biblical texts in some of his works, the study attempts to synthesize the guidelines of Maximian biblical hermeneutics.
