The Potentiality of Art Infrastructures: The Postwar Gallery Movement in Poland and Critical Geographies

Summary/Abstract: The article attempts to examine the postwar trajectory of the Polish neo-avant-gardethrough the perspective of an independently developed network of galleries that formeda new art infrastructure in times of ideological oppression. Conditioned mainly by culturalpolicy, their activity dynamized the postwar field and negotiated their position within thefield. The recollection of former places, actions, environments, and initiatives aligns withthe practice of reclaiming memory, which is the subject of negotiation within official arthistory discourses that often construct hegemonic narratives.
