Summary/Abstract: Leïla Sebbar, one of the leading women writers of Francophone Algerian literature, grows up in a hybrid cultural environment due to her mother being French (Christian) and her father being Arab (Muslim). The author, who frequently refers to this situation in her works, sees herself at the intersection of these two different cultures. Sebbar, who usually deals with issues such as the difficulties of living between two cultures, exile, the problem of identity and cultural conflicts, focuses on the lives, loves, memories, happiness and unhappiness of several women in a hammam through their conversations, in her novel entitled Les femmes au bain, published in 2006. In this study, firstly, I examined the identity struggles, socio-economic conditions and social positions of women in Algeria, drawing on the works of women writers in Francophone Algerian literature. Then, I analysed the Algerian women depicted in Leïla Sebbar’s novel entitled Les femmes au bain and the subject of love through the eyes of these women in parallel with the historical and social changes in Algeria. I stated that Sebbar, in this novel, blended the themes of woman and love with social and cultural elements and revealed the lives of Algerian women, their situations, their struggles against the social order, their memories, their happiness and unhappiness. In addition, I revealed that the author made various descriptions of love through her characters and indicated the points where love intersected and separated from personal and cultural identity.
