Summary/Abstract: Âşık Veysel Şatıroğlu is not only a prominent representative of the 20th-century minstrel tradition but also an artist whose voice transcends the boundaries of the period in which he lived and remains relevant today. Research on Âşık Veysel’s art has begun to generate a voluminous body of literature that continues to grow steadily. His success in art can be attributed to his ability to embody and convey abstract concepts such as death, fate, existence, and nothingness-ideas that are difficult for the general public to grasp. In this context, it can be said that he created original images and conceptualizations in folk poetry, carrying both the spiritual characteristics of his era and the archaic roots of the tradition into his own time. Âşık Veysel encouraged a vision of humanity with a broad horizon that transcended all distinctions, including the Alevi-Bektashi tradition he himself represented, and established a universal language above all social and historical paradigms. The purpose of this research is to examine how the artistic identity of Âşık Veysel, which has been the subject of many studies, is perceived in society by different age and education groups through metaphor analysis. For this purpose, metaphors developed by students from the fifth grade onwards in primary and secondary education; students in undergraduate and graduate education; and people who have completed their education and who have started their careers and/or retired were compiled. Participants took part in the study on a voluntary basis. To collect the research data, participants were asked to complete the sentence: “Âşık Veysel Şatıroğlu is like… because…” The phenomenology model, one of the qualitative research methods, was used in the study, and the obtained data were analyzed using the content analysis method. The research findings contributed to the analysis of how the connection between the period in which a representative of tradition lived and the present day is perceived in society. Based on the research findings, it was concluded that perceptions of Âşık Veysel have changed over time. The most common metaphors identified in the study are “Anatolia,” “poet,” and “earth.” As a result of the research, it was determined that participants shared a common view that Âşık Veysel was an artist who engaged in universal and profound reflections and went beyond the boundaries of his time.
