Summary/Abstract: In this article, we present the results of a pilot empirical study on ethnic identity and its psychological characteristics among students of pedagogical specialties at universities in the Lviv region, conducted in November and December 2021. Our research aimed to determine the hierarchy of structural components of the ethnic identity of Ukrainian students. Factor analysis of the studied indicators allowed us to identify the main factors influencing the transformation of ethnic identity. In particular, we traced the levels of ethnic identity formation, from diffuse ethnic identity to hyperidentity. The results indicated a low to below-average level of ethno-nihilism, and a low to average level of ethno-isolationism among the studied group. This pilot study, carried out before the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, has a retrospective character, but it opens up broad perspectives for further empirical research. A comparative analysis will make it possible to identify any war-induced changes in ethnic identity, offering a basis for future educational and psycho-correctional work.
