Summary/Abstract: I chose as the main theme of my paper a fascinating country – India, a fascinating people – the Indian one and a remarkable author – VS Naipaul. The Indian culture is a special culture different in so many ways of other cultures. Today the Indian nation and culture are rich source of inspiration for TV documentaries, books and movies, each author and scenarist wanting to get known India’s uniqueness and individuality. There are so many interesting aspects related to the Indian nation that should be reveled starting with its tumultuous past, its fascinating present and its promising future. Indian people are also remarkable due to their variety and different customs, their renowned hospitality and tolerance to everything and everyone no matter how different would be from them or of the Indian culture. Another intriguing aspect related to the Indian nation is their religion different from the Christian one in so many ways. What I wanted to underline in my paper is the myriad of connections that link the past to the present and to the future of India. What I consider fascinating about India is the fact that the past and the present are literally visible at every corner of the streets in both the great cities and remote villages of India. A special part of my paper presents the contrasts existing in the Indian society that constitute its charm. My paper is divided into two parts: the past and the present of India. Each of these parts is equally important for a better understanding of the Indian nation and as I said before they are in close connection one with another. I chose to start with the past because what happened in the history of India shaped the Indian people as we know them today. I chose only one episode of the fascinating past of India namely the dark period of colonization. My choice was based on the fact that the results of this colonization are still visible today in the Indian nation. The second part presents India as it is today, a still developing nation with many accomplishments in different fields of activity and with a promising future. In this part I divided India in many categories such as: the rural India because the villages play an important role in the Indian economy, metropolitan India because the great Indian cities are the veins of this nation, political India because this nation had great rulers, technological India because it is renownall over the world for its innovations in technology and finally international India because it has business relations with the great nations of the world.
