Summary/Abstract: This study draws attention to the spatiality of cultural production by discussing the importance of physical spaces in the artistic continuity of cinema. In order to understand the role of spaces in cinema and how the loss of these spaces relates to cinema culture, the closure and demolition processes of Rexx Cinema are discussed from a sociological perspective through the social reactions of Kadıköy residents. 80 posts and comments selected from the X platform were analysed and the themes of ‘nostalgia and personal ties’, ‘loss and sadness’, ‘rent-seeking and anger’, ‘loss of cultural value’, ‘initiation of demolition’, ‘legal violation’, ‘right to the city and resistance’ and ‘nostalgia and farewell’ were identified. The findings reveal that Rexx creates a collective memory as a space that hosts artistic expressions of cinema such as festivals and independent productions, while its closure and demolition threaten the spatial basis of this cultural production.
