Summary/Abstract: Women’s problem, authority and Academy haven’t been investigated thoroughly in Bulgarian historiography. This paper analyses the access of Bulgarian scholar women to academic positions during 20s – 50s in 20th century, as well it makes conclusions about Bulgarian women empowerment in the first half of 20th century in a traditional institution as the Academy. The main instruments are the theories about power networks, about the dominant and voiceless groups, sex inequality that are widely used in modern anthropology. Two well demarcated periods in High Bulgarian schools are included (prior to and after the Second World War) where the constructive and destructive factors are analyzed, facilitating or impeding women access to academic authority. The objects of the study are State Academy of Music and the Department of German Philology at Sofia State University. The study is based on historical analysis of unpublished archival documents, memoirs and journalistic materials.
