Summary/Abstract: The long-term relationship of politics and novel continues with the unique dynamics of the 21st century. As in every period, contemporary novels have something to say about political, social and economic processes. In this context, it is inevitable that neoliberalism, which is the dominant paradigm in the world, and the crises it produces, find a place in the texts of novels. Afşin Kum’s novel Sıcak Kafa, published in 2016, serves as the basis of this study and explores the social problems caused by a crisis that unfolds through an epidemic within a dystopian setting. The argument of the study is that the fiction during the pandemic in the novel presents cross-sections from the contemporary neoliberal authoritarian state. This argument is grounded in the notion that literary narratives, including novels, reflect and mediate aspects of the real world. The text-centered analysis concludes that the novel offers a critical commentary on the neoliberal authoritarian state, particularly through themes such as crisis, authoritarianism, and freedom.
