Summary/Abstract: The aim of this paper is to present the results of a survey carried out among 28 English language teacher trainees with regard to their perceptions of the qualities necessary to a successful language teacher. We admistered a questionnaire among students of English Language and Literature at “1 Decembrie 1918” University of Alba Iulia, all in their last BA year, who had already enrolled on the Teacher Education Programme and concurrently taken courses in Educational psychology, Pedagogy, Discipline Didactics, and were about to start their Practicum in schools. Results were analysed both quantitatively and qualitatively, and revealed the trainees’ high concern for social and interpersonal skills that they perceive as essential for the teaching career.
