The text message – between oral communication and written conventions

Summary/Abstract: The authors study how young people use messaging in their daily interactions. The work places special emphasis on small talk and highlights specific features at the phonetic, morphological and syntactic levels. The similarities of utterances, commonly found in texts, and some conversational syntactic patterns are emphasized. The role of this type of speech for the study of expressions that are found in oral communication and their structure is highlighted.
