The Annexation of the Historical-Geographical Region of Macedonia to the Bulgarian Tsardom Under the Reign of Tsar Kaloyan (1197–1207)

Summary/Abstract: The work presents how Tsar Kaloyan gradually liberated the historical-geographical region of Macedonia in the context of the Bulgarian ruler’s hostilities to the Byzantine empire and the Latin empire and his policy of continuity with the Early Medieval Bulgarian state. Some towns and fortresses (Skopje, Prosek, Veria, Maglen etc.) where the Bulgarian military-administrative and ecclesiastical power was established are represented. An important place is given to Tsar Kaloyan’s attempt to destroy the Kingdom of Thessalonica in 1205–1207.
