Summary/Abstract: The article is built on the basis of a recent empirical study conducted by the authors on both the perception of volunteering and the participation in volunteering of the Romanian public. One of the findings is that volunteering is not perceived, as one might think, with wasting time or with an activity without substance. Romanians strongly associate volunteering with the idea of good, of common welfare, and largely accept it as a positive thing. Of course, participation in volunteering is much more restricted than its acceptance, and regular and organized participation is much more restricted than sporadic and emotional participation.
