Summary/Abstract: This article explores the similarities and differences, ideological roots, and relations between the 15th Special Forces Brigade “Azov” of the National Guard of Ukraine and the Azov movement, as well as their ideological evolution in the context of extremism. The text discusses: the impact of the Euromaidan revolution on the formation of “Azov”; the ideological inspirations of the founders of this military unit and the entire Azov movement; the structure and significance of the Azov movement; extremist groups linked to it, its international connections and their relevance to its ideological position, as well as the internal situation within the movement after 2021. The author argues that, although the military unit has officially distanced itself from extremist content, many key individuals from both current and former Azov leadership remain part of the Azov movement’s network. Meanwhile, this network retains its extremist character, shares training facilities and community centres with the military unit, and brigade leaders actively participate in events organised by the Azov movement.
