Summary/Abstract: A solitary summer walk through the outskirts of Bucha and Hostomel reveals landscapes marked by war and slow recovery. Once vibrant trails and sunflower fields now give way to overgrown paths, shell craters, and abandoned plots, while signs of life cautiously return with dog walkers and scattered construction efforts. The scars of artillery positions and shattered trees linger as silent witnesses to the battles for Hostomel Airport, contrasting with the paradox of intact dachas and persistent greenery. Despite occasional rebuilding and luxury housing projects, the region exudes a sense of suspended vitality—optimism has faded, and property sale notices multiply, signaling uncertainty and demographic shifts. The journey captures a fragile coexistence of resilience and erosion, where nature reclaims space as human presence ebbs, and the pulse of revival slows under the weight of prolonged conflict.
