Summary/Abstract: This paper is devoted to archival materials and their importance in studying the historical and cultural heritage of Azerbaijan in the late Middle Ages. The Russian Federation's archives in particular contain a wealth of information about the development of the state's main cities as centres of khanates during this historical period. One such archive is the Russian State Military History Archive. The archive's documents are important historical sources for studying the history and cultural heritage of one of Azerbaijan's ancient cities, Ganja, during this period. For the first time, written documents, such as archival sources from the late Middle Ages, have been investigated as important sources for studying the historic, cultural and architectural heritage of the city of Ganja. They provide information about fortress walls, palaces, caravanserais, baths, houses, bridges and other buildings not only in Ganja, but also in other Azerbaijani cities. The archive contains many documents about the history and cultural traditions of the Ganja Khanate. Official military documents from the former Russian Empire include detailed historical data on Ganja's economy, culture, demographics and political history, as well as that of the Khanate. Academic materials in the archives, together with other sources from this period, provide an objective insight into the history and cultural heritage of the Ganja Khanate. Due to the exact research of so many archival documents and historical sources, new important information about the historical past of this ancient city has been uncovered.
