Summary/Abstract: Abigél Vizi’s article examines the actress Kinga Illyés’s art, with particular emphasis on how her work was portrayed in the press of the 1970s and 1980s. The focus of the study is less on the roles played by her as a member of theatre companies and more on the solo podium performances that made her truly famous (and which received the most press coverage). Through the individual performances A Kis herceg (The Little Prince), Fagyöngy (Mistletoe), and Lírai oratórium (Lyrical Oratorio), Kinga Illyés created a performance style that went beyond the classical actor’s presence: it was based on voice, presence, and personal artistic creed. The study is the edited version of two chapters of the author’s MA thesis defended in July 2024. Through an analysis of the press coverage, the thesis also examines the role of the political and institutional background in shaping Kinga Illyés’s decades-long solo carreer and why her presence before the public mainly in independent performances was not considered a “secondary” artistic career.
