Summary/Abstract: The Pravila of Govora, the first “legal code” printed by order of the Prince of the Country and with the blessing of the Head of the Church, was compiled with the aim of serving as a canonical guide for priests in their pastoral and canonical activities. This was done by hieromonk Mihail Moxa a scholar who also knew Greek and Slavonic and was well familiar with the byzantine and the nomocanonical legislation and the canonical doctrine of the Eastern Church, as the Pravila of Govora, printed in 1640, shows. The considerations and evaluations - however brief - that we have made on this Pravila (its genesis, sources and content) are intended to help the reader understand how a “Book of Teaching” served both clergy and believers through its content in their Christian life.
