Summary/Abstract: Patience is an important virtue that enables individuals to respond more calmly to the challenges of life and to deal with problems in a logical manner. Religion, through its rituals and teachings, instills positive emotions in individuals and fosters the development of patient behavior. Religious texts frequently emphasize the importance of patience when faced with difficulties. Therefore, this study is important in terms of understanding the role of religion in developing patience, which serves as a protective force against some of today’s major issues, such as violence and anger. The present study aims to investigate the relationship between religiosity and patience in university students. The study sample consists of 230 volunteering students from the Faculty of Theology at Nevşehir Hacı Bektaş Veli University. The data collection tools used in this study include the Personal Information Form, the Religious Orientation Scale, and the Patience Scale. The surveys were conducted face-to-face, with the completion time for each survey ranging between 15 and 20 minutes. Participants were informed before the study that the data would remain confidential. SPSS (v23) software was used to analyze the data obtained from the research. Initially, variables such as gender, age, socioeconomic status, father’s educational level, and mother’s educational level were examined, followed by an examination of the correlation between patience and religiosity with demographic variables. Finally, the relationship between religiosity and patience was determined. Correlation, t-tests, one-way ANOVA, and Pearson correlation tests were employed in analyses, and significant results are presented in this study. The main results achieved in this study are summarized as follows: there was no statistically significant difference between the religious orientation levels of male and female participants. Similarly, no significant difference was found between the patience scores of male and female participants. When considering the age variable, it was found that individuals aged 18-19 had lower scores in both religious orientation and religious inquiry compared to those over the age of 22, which represented a significant difference. Regarding socioeconomic status, no significant differences were found in religious orientation, patience, or subscale scores. In relation to father’s education level, no significant correlation was identified between the participants’ religious orientation and patience scores. However, considering the mother’s education level, a statistically significant difference was found in the interpersonal patience subscale and the overall patience score. Specifically, participants whose mothers graduated only from elementary school had higher interpersonal patience subscale and overall patience scores when compared to those whose mothers were middle school graduates. Given these results, it is thought that the present study will contribute to the current literature.
