Summary/Abstract: In the 17th and 19th centuries, the Balkan Peninsula was one of the Islamic world’s most significant weapons production centers. The towns of Debar, Tetovo, Gostivar, and Prizran developed as the leading centers for producing Arnaut flintlock pistols. Each city developed its style not only in the manufacture of the weapons but also in its intricate silver decoration. Sometimes, decorations were commissioned to mark the weapon’s success in defending its owner through a particularly severe campaign. The Arnaut flintlock pistol from Petrich presented in this article was initially used in its original version as a flintlock. In an unknown period, it was redesigned with a capsule mechanism, and after restoration, the original authentic striker-flint ignition mechanism was returned. In the 17th and 19th centuries, the Balkan Peninsula was one of the Islamic world’s most significant weapons production centers.
