Summary/Abstract: The following paper aims to thoroughly investigate the appearance and function of the Slavic gods in Miloš Urban’s novel Pole a palisáda (2006). First, we characterize the author’s previous prose works, and then we mention The Myths, a project of the Scottish publishing house Canongate, because Urban’s novel was published within its framework. In doing so, we highlight the features that distinguish Urban’s adaptation of mythology from the other prose texts published in the series The Myth. After that we briefly summarize the poetics of the novel and its reception by literary critics. Finally, we turn our attention to the way Slavic mythology is incorporated into the central narrative and analyze the question of what the authorial strategy’s goals are.
