Regenerative Agriculture in Practice: A Case Study of Lubuskie Angusowo and Its Role in Food Production in Poland

Summary/Abstract: This study investigates the motivations for adopting regenerative practices andevaluates success from the perspective of the owner of Poland’s first regenerative farm.Selected research results based on the interview questionnaire indicate that, accordingto the owner, the primary motivator for implementing regenerative farming practices isthe reduction in maintenance costs. This cost efficiency stems from regenerative methods notrequiring expensive fertilisation or plant-protection products. The owner also underscoresthe importance of soil quality, emphasising techniques such as controlled grazing, sowingannual plants, and bale-grazing, which collectively enhance soil nutrition and directlyimprove food quality. The analysis of opportunities and challenges based on the subjectliterature reveals diverse environmental, economic, and social arguments both supportingand opposing regenerative farming practices in food production. Based on the experienceof the owner of Lubuskie Angusowo, the implementation of regenerative methods demandssubstantial personal effort in terms of education, understanding of the system’s principles,and persistence in their application. The transition to regenerative farming also necessitatesa mindset shift, fostering awareness of the need to produce healthy food while embracingresponsibility for all stages – from production to sale to the end consumer.
