Summary/Abstract: The built heritage of the Buda campus of the Corvinus University of Budapest (Buda Arboretum) – similar to other built heritage sites of other campus-based universities – was created over a long period of time. In the past 150 years there have always been construction works carried out on the southern slopes of Gellért Hill in various architectural styles, but between 1894 and 1949 – with one exception – only extensions or renovations of the existing buildings were carried out. The study examines the special role this unique landmark has played in maintaining institutional-historical identity, which the author believes allows a new approach to the built heritage. He also highlights the fact that the built heritages of the Buda campus of the Budapest Corvinus University and of other institutes of higher education function as a means of preserving institutional-historical identity beyond their art-historical and economic value.
