Summary/Abstract: This study examines student life during the authoritarian regime of King Carol II (1938-1940), as reflected in the petitions that students of the University of Bucharest submitted to the Minister of National Education. These sources shed light on issues such as expulsions for political reasons, the relations between students and the authorities, and aspects of everyday student life. A significant part of the paper is dedicated to the petitions of students expelled due to communist or legionary sympathies. A separate subchapter discusses the case of the geographer Petre Coteț, expelled for legionary activity, an episode in his biography that has not come to light until now. Finally, the article explores the situation of student associations, along with the complaints of a former student of the faculties of Law and Letters and Philosophy. Hence, the student petitions addressed to the Minister of National Education reflect the political transformations that marked the university community on the eve of the Second World War. The cases presented also suggest that, although the involvement of students in illegal political movements led to their expulsion, factors such as academic performance and support from professors could ultimately facilitate reintegration.
