Summary/Abstract: The article discusses anthropomorphic figurines from the second half of the second millennium BC from North-West Bulgaria. The richness of their ornamental motifs is examined in the context of symbolic systems that reflect the beliefs of their creators. The possibility that the signs on 218 the figurines under discussion may also represent an ancient code system that did not transform into writing system but retained its code meanings is argued as well.
