Who Needs the Festival?

Summary/Abstract: The 9th edition of the Interferences International Theatre Festival organised in Cluj-Napoca focused on the 35 years that have passed since the regime change. Having seen both good and not so good theatre productions during its 15 days, Réka Hegyi reports on the event with mixed feelings. She appreciated that, unlike at previous editions of the festival, the audience could see more domestic companies and artists, but the professional discussion forums organised as part of the accompanying programmes were characterised by the avoidance of sensitive issues. The author believes that the time has come for this once prestigious festival to be rethought by its organisers before it irreversibly loses its professional weight.
